The Commonwealth of Dominica will bestow its highest national award, the Dominica Award of Honour, upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in recognition of his contributions to Dominica during the Covid-19 pandemic and his dedication to strengthening the partnership between India and Dominica.

The award will be presented by Sylvanie Burton, President of the Commonwealth of Dominica, at the India-CARICOM Summit, scheduled for November 19-21, 2024, in Georgetown, Guyana.

In February 2021, India provided Dominica with 70,000 doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, a significant contribution that also allowed Dominica to assist neighbouring Caribbean countries.

Nanaimo RCMP are investigating a hit-and-run collision that occurred on August 16 and resulted in the death of a pedestrian. Calgary-Shaw by-election set for Sept. 14 following vacant seat

Elections Alberta has confirmed that a by-election in the Calgary-Shaw provincial constituency will be held Sept. 14. The official writ for the election has now been issued. The seat has been vacant since May, when former Environment and Protected Areas Minister Rebecca Schulz resigned following a recall petition launched against her. The United Conservative Party has nominated Mike Dery to contest the riding, while the NDP has nominated Kyle Campbell.
