Although Skidmore did not provide an exact number of potential job losses in BC, she warned that if the 25 percent tariff continues for an extended period, thousands of jobs could be lost across Canada. She emphasized that the situation is being closely monitored to help protect workers' jobs.

Earlier this week, Premier David Eby cautioned that the province’s economic outlook could be worse than the 2008 recession due to the impact of tariffs. He also mentioned that his government might consider implementing measures similar to the relief packages provided during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Skidmore pointed out that sectors such as lumber, seafood, mining, and technology are particularly vulnerable to the effects of the tariffs.
