Cellphone service will begin on October 3 for all Toronto subway train riders.
Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry François-Philippe Champagne made the announcement on Monday while speaking at a news conference at Toronto City Hall.
Champagne said that after an accelerated public consultation process, all major companies' licenses will be revised to ensure that all TTC riders are able to receive network coverage in the subway system in Toronto.
Since 2012, the lack of phone service in the TTC has been a concern.
In the wake of increasing violent incidents in recent times, there was a growing demand for better connectivity within the TTC.
Australia's BAI Communications was awarded a $25 million contract to build the TTC's public Wi-Fi and cellular network.
