Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to remain in Europe for a short private vacation following official visits to Norway and the United Kingdom, according to reports about his upcoming travel schedule.
Carney is scheduled to depart on March 13 for Norway before continuing to the United Kingdom for meetings with political leaders. The Prime Minister’s Office says the trip will focus on defence cooperation, global economic shifts and international security issues.
During his time in London, Carney is expected to meet British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. According to officials, the discussion is expected to include defence collaboration, global economic changes and the current situation in the Middle East.
After completing the official portion of the trip, reports indicate Carney will not immediately return to Canada with the government delegation on March 16. Instead, he is expected to stay in Europe during the March break period, spending several days privately in London and Rome.
While in Norway, Carney is scheduled to attend the NATO military exercise Cold Response and travel to Oslo for meetings with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the visit will mark the first official trip by a Canadian prime minister to Norway since 1980.
