Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has welcomed the US International Trade Court's decision to block President Donald Trump's tariffs.
The prime minister also made it clear that Canada will continue to work on expanding its trade with other markets because Trump has not eliminated steel, aluminum and automotive tariffs.
On Wednesday, the US International Trade Court ruled that Trump does not have the authority to impose tariffs on every country using the International Economic Emergency Powers Act.
The court's ruling blocks tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China, as well as reciprocal tariffs imposed on other countries, which the Trump administration is challenging. The president has not yet commented on the matter, but members of his team have widely condemned the court's decision.
