Car Explosion in St. Petersburg Kills Russian Lieutenant Colonel, Injures Wife

A Russian military officer was killed and his wife injured in a car explosion in St. Petersburg on Thursday, according to Russian media reports.

The couple were reportedly inside the vehicle when the explosion occurred. The deceased was identified as a lieutenant colonel. He died at the scene, while his injured wife was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Russia’s Investigative Committee said a criminal investigation has been launched into the incident. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the explosion and identify those responsible.

Russia has previously accused Ukraine of carrying out attacks targeting senior military officers and individuals linked to the war in Ukraine. In some cases, Ukrainian sources have claimed responsibility, while in others they have denied involvement.

There was no immediate reaction from Ukraine regarding the latest incident.
