The Canadian government has unveiled a relief package worth more than $6 billion to support businesses impacted by tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump. The announcement was made by the Trudeau government’s ministers of labour, international trade, and small business during a press conference in Ottawa today.

As part of the support for businesses, the government will allocate $5 billion over the next two years to help exporters find new markets outside the US. Additionally, a $500-million loan program will be launched through the Business Development Bank of Canada for businesses directly affected by the tariffs. The Minister of Labour also introduced a work-sharing program starting today to help maintain employment for Canadian workers.

In further efforts to support the economy, the government has announced $1 billion in new financial assistance for the agriculture and food industry, which will be distributed through Farm Credit Canada.
