B.C. records 121 new COVID-19 cases; officials preach caution on long weekend

British Columbia has recorded another 121 cases of COVID-19 and one death related to the virus.

In a joint statement on Friday, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix say there has been a total of 6,162 cases since the pandemic began.

COVID-19 has claimed 211 lives in the province.

Almost 2,800 people in the province are under active health monitoring after being identified as being exposed to someone who has tested positive, and 4,706 people have recovered.

KinVillage long-term care home in Delta is the latest facility with an outbreak after a worker tested positive.

There are now 10 long-term care or assisted-living facilities and two acute-care facilities with active outbreaks.

Vancouver Downtown Eastside stabbing: Police search for suspect

Police are searching for a suspect after a man was stabbed in the neck in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. $30M Worth of Illegal Cigarettes Seized in Alberta’s Westlock Area

Alberta RCMP have seized an estimated $30 million worth of illegal cigarettes following a months-long investigation in the Westlock area. A 50-year-old Westlock man has been arrested and charged with multiple offences. Police began the investigation in January after receiving information that unstamped cigarettes were being sold in the Westlock area. During the investigation, an undercover officer purchased cigarettes from a store called The Boutique. Search warrants were executed on June 17 and 18.
