B.C. Premier Announces Three Cabinet Changes as Brenda Bailey Takes Leave for Cancer Treatment

British Columbia Premier David Eby has announced three cabinet changes following Finance Minister Brenda Bailey’s decision to take a leave of absence for cancer treatment and recovery.

Bailey has been diagnosed with early-stage cancer that is treatable. She is expected to begin treatment in late August 2026 and return to work in early October. She will remain a member of cabinet during her leave.

Effective August 14, the changes are:

  • Josie Osborne — Minister of Finance
  • Ravi Kahlon — Minister of Health
  • Brenda Bailey — Minister of Jobs and Economic Growth

Bailey is returning to the ministry she previously led, where she will oversee major projects and trade diversification. While she is on leave, Energy and Climate Solutions Minister Adrian Dix will cover her portfolio.

Osborne is moving to the Finance Ministry from Health. She brings experience from four ministries and has worked with the Treasury Board, giving her knowledge of the province’s fiscal plan.

Kahlon is taking over the Health Ministry after serving as Minister of Jobs and Economic Growth. He has been involved in the province’s “Look West” strategy and its response to U.S. trade actions.

Premier Eby said the three ministers are among the most experienced members of his cabinet and will focus on maintaining continuity and delivering for British Columbians.

Canada’s first medical drone pilot program of its kind has been launched by Peel Regional Paramedic Service in Ontario, allowing life-saving medical supplies to reach patients before an ambulance arrives during emergencies. Canada’s Population Growth Hits Slowest Pace Since WWII

Canada’s population grew by 0.5 per cent between July 2025 and July 2026, marking the slowest annual growth rate recorded since the end of the Second World War.
