Atlantic passenger travel companies adding surcharges to ease pain of fuel prices

Passenger travel companies in Atlantic Canada are feeling the pinch of rising fuel prices. The region's largest taxi company _ Casino Taxi, in Halifax _ has imposed a $1.30 fuel surcharge on each fare to help compensate drivers.

Company president Brian Herman says the surcharge is paid directly to the drivers, who are facing fuel prices approaching $2 per litre.

He says the surcharge will be removed after Halifax city council approves a rate increase, which is expected in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Maritime Bus has also imposed a fuel surcharge for its

intercity routes, but owner Mike Cassidy says he's trying to keep rates down to encourage people to use his buses. He says many residents are addicted to their personal cars, but he says he expects more people to use buses to travel within the Atlantic region if fuel prices continue to rise.

Ontario Government Introduces Strict New Framework for Data Centres

The Ontario government has announced a new, stricter policy for data centres as demand for artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure continues to grow rapidly. Premier Doug Ford’s government introduced the framework at a time when several Ontario municipalities, including Toronto and Hamilton, had been calling on the province for clearer guidelines to manage the rapid expansion of data cen

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre Attacks Carney Over GDP Growth

Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre has launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Mark Carney over the latest GDP growth figures, accusing his government of leaving Canada with the worst-performing economy in the G7. Poiliev argued that one quarter of economic growth does not change what he described as Canada’s broader economic challenges under Carney’s leadership. He claimed Canada now has the lowest growth rate in the G7, the highest food inflation, the highest debt levels and the second-highest unemployment rate among G7 countries. The Conservative leader also alleged that inves
