Canada will host foreign ministers from the Group of Seven nations next month for two days of high-level discussions on global security and economic resilience. The meetings, scheduled for November 11 and 12, will take place in Ontario’s Niagara Region.
Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand will chair the session, welcoming her counterparts from France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and representatives of the European Union. The gathering follows a ministerial meeting held in Quebec earlier this year and the G7 leaders’ summit in Alberta in June.
Global Affairs Canada said the Niagara meetings will build on previous commitments to strengthen international cooperation, with discussions expected to focus on regional security challenges, economic stability, and environmental protection. At the March meeting in Quebec, Canada proposed joint actions to monitor maritime activity across the Arctic, Pacific, and Atlantic oceans - particularly ships attempting to evade sanctions - and to safeguard marine biodiversity.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who also attended the Quebec meeting, said at the time he aimed to reinforce partnerships with allies. His remarks came amid attention to recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting Canada could one day become an American state - a notion Canadian officials have firmly dismissed.
