Air ambulance on a night flight from Nanaimo, deliberately targeted by someone shining a green laser

RCMP in British Columbia say one person is missing after a vehicle crashed into the Squamish River. Mounties in Squamish say emergency crews responded early Saturday after a vehicle with four occupants drove off the road into the river. Police say three people were able to get to safety but one person was missing. Officers, along with the Squamish fire department and search-and-rescue crews, tried to locate both the vehicle and the missing person, but failed. Search-and-rescue crews are continuing efforts to locate the missing person. Police say further details will be released later.

Canadian fighter jets were deployed to intercept a private, civilian plane that violated restricted airspace above Kananaskis, Alta., where G7 leaders are gathering for meetings. RCMP say in a news release that the fixed-wing Canadian aircraft entered the restricted area shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday, and NORAD’s Canadian region deployed CF-18 Hornet fighter jets to intercept it. Prime Minister Mark Carney will meet this morning with U.S. President Donald Trump at the G7 summit in Alberta. It's Trump's first visit to Canada since he started repeatedly saying the country should become an American state, leading Canadians to boo the American anthem at hockey games. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says her government's new policy forcing many Albertans to pay out of pocket for a COVID-19 vaccination is about focusing on those who need it the most. Smith says $135 million got ``flushed down the drain'' last year from doses wasted in part because of low vaccine uptake. Her government will still pay for some, including for those who have compromised immune systems or are on social programs, to get shots. Smith says she thinks low vaccination rates for COVID-19 in Alberta last year are because the vaccine ``doesn't work particularly well.''

A series of violent shootings in Surrey over the past few days amid extortion calls has led many in the community to ask questions about safety.
