Harmit Singh Pathanmajra, a sitting MLA from the Sanour constituency representing the Aam Aadmi Party, has been arrested by Patiala police in connection with a sexual assault case, according to police.
Authorities said Pathanmajra had been evading arrest for approximately six months. A court had earlier declared him a proclaimed offender and police had issued a lookout notice against him. The case includes allegations of sexual assault, fraud, and criminal intimidation, though the charges have not been proven in court.
Following his arrest, a local court remanded Pathanmajra to five days of police custody for further investigation. Police have not publicly detailed the circumstances of the arrest or whether additional charges may be pursued.
Reacting to the development, Bikram Singh Majithia of the Shiromani Akali Dal alleged the arrest was a “political stunt.” He claimed the timing was intended to divert attention from the reported suicide of a Punjab Warehousing Corporation district manager. These claims have not been independently verified.
Connect Newsroom contacted the Aam Aadmi Party and representatives for Pathanmajra for comment. No response was received by publication time.
