At least 213 prisoners escaped from Malir Jail in Karachi, Pakistan on Monday night. According to the jail administration, the prisoners were evacuated from the barracks as a precaution after the earthquake tremors in Karachi.
According to the report, about 80 of them have been recaptured, while 135 prisoners are still on the run. Jail Superintendent Arshad Shah confirmed this on Tuesday morning. He said that more than 600 prisoners were outside their barracks at that time and 213 prisoners managed to escape amidst the chaos.
Several media reports were saying that the prisoners escaped by breaking the wall, but the administration has clarified that no wall was broken, all the prisoners escaped from the main gate. The police have launched a joint operation with the Rangers, Frontier Corps and Special Security Unit to capture the escaped prisoners.
