Biden leads Trump in Pennsylvania's vote count

Democrat Joe Biden is leading President Donald Trump in the battleground state of Pennsylvania. By Friday morning, Biden overtook Trump in the number of ballots counted in the state, which Trump must win to have a shot at reelection. Biden leads by about 9,000 votes. The contest is still too early for The Associated Press to call. Votes in the state are still being counted. Trump's lead dwindled after Election Day when state officials began processing mail-in ballots, a form of voting that has skewed heavily in Biden's favour. Trump spent months claiming, without proof, that voting by mail wo

Man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant escapes from custody: Metro Vancouver Transit Police

Metro Vancouver Transit Police say a man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant escaped from custody on Wednesday night. Police say they checked a man in the area of Surrey Central Station on Wednesday, discovering that he was wanted for break-and-enter. During the attempt to arrest him, the suspect was able to break free and left behind a hockey bag containing a handgun and ammunition. Transit police are asking for the public's help in tracking down Sean Cuddeford, saying they anticipate recommending several more charges to add to the original charge of break-and-enter.

Former RCMP officer testifies, gaming minister knew about organized crime at casinos

A former RCMP officer testified that a British Columbia cabinet minister told him in 2009 that the gaming minister knew about organized crime at casinos but was more focused on the revenue generated by gambling. Fred Pinnock who was formerly in charge of the now-defunct illegal gambling enforcement team, made the comments yesterday at the provincial inquiry into money laundering. Pinnock says he met with then solicitor general Kash Heed, who told him his concerns were legitimate but that gaming minister Rich Coleman was ``all about the money.'' The inquiry also heard that the arrests of sever

Trump says, Democrats are trying to "steal" the election; Biden is urging people to have patience

US President Donald Trump is renewing his unfounded claims that Democrats are trying to steal the election from him. He did not back up his claim with any details or evidence but is calling for the "legal votes" to only be counted. State and federal officials have not reported any instances of widespread voter fraud. Trump claims, without evidence, that the ballot-counting process is unfair and corrupt. The process across the US has been running smoothly, and the count is ongoing in several battleground states. Democrat Joe Biden is urging patience, while President Donald Trump is pursing his

For the first time B.C. reports more than 400 COVID-19 cases in a single day

British Columbia reported a record of 425 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the total number of cases to 16,560 across the province. Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says a rise in cases was anticipated as people moved indoors during colder months. The request to temporarily end open houses follows an order last week by Henry to limit the size of gatherings in private residences to the immediate household plus their so-called "safe six." The bulk of the cases are in the Fraser Health region at 268 with another 126 in Vancouver Coastal health. The province now has 3,389 acti

Efforts in 2017 to control the illegal practice at casinos created a "ghost town effect"

An inquiry into money laundering in BC has been told that efforts in 2017 to control the illegal practice at casinos across the province created a ``ghost town effect'' but only for a few weeks. Daryl Tottenham, manager of anti-money laundering programs for the BC Lottery Corporation testified this morning that the crackdown led to a dramatic reduction in casino revenues for two or three weeks. He says all gamblers, not just the high-end players stayed away, but the chill lifted quickly. Commissioner Austin Cullen is leading the inquiry which was launched by the NDP government after reports t

Prime Minister Mark Carney says he will soon travel to Europe in a bid to deepen ties with Germany. He says he will be "picking up discussions" started with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the spring when the pair met in Rome and later at the G7 summit in Alberta. Carney says Canada has a good partnership with Germany but he believes it can be better. The German government revealed ahead of Carney's announcement that he would meet with Merz on Tuesday morning. Richmond RCMP warns public about rental deposit scams

Richmond RCMP is warning the public of a current trend involving rental deposit scams. Since July of 2025, Richmond RCMP officers are investigating five reports of rental deposit frauds where individual losses range from $400 to $2,600. In most cases, the victims found an online advertisement on a social media platform, contacted the alleged owner and were asked to pay a deposit to secure the property via e-transfer. Once the funds were transferred, the victim soon discovered the property was not available for rent. “We realize the rental market is highly competitive, especially around this

B.C. ostrich farm loses court bid to prevent avian flu cull

The Federal Court of Appeal has rejected a bid by a British Columbia ostrich farm to prevent the culling of its flock that had been infected with avian flu. The court has dismissed two applications by Universal Ostrich Farms over the cull of about 400 birds, which was sought by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. It says the "stamping out" policy of the agency, in which infected poultry flocks are killed, is reasonable, and that criteria to apply it had been met in the case of the farm in Edgewood, B.C. The planned cull had drawn opposition from United States officials, including Health Secre
