The deputy mayor of Harbour Breton, Newfoundland, figures the town's three grocery stores will be out of food in the next day or two. The community of about 1,600 remains cut off due to the worst forest fires the province has seen since 1961. The province is getting a ferry to start bringing supplies to stranded communities and to help people leave. Abbotsford police say two people are dead following a police chase Sunday afternoon involving an alleged stolen vehicle. No damage reported or expected after 4.6 magnitude quake

A minor offshore earthquake has been recorded off the coast of Vancouver Island. Earthquakes Canada said the 4.6 magnitude quake took place Monday just after 12:30 a.m. PDT. It was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometres. There are no reports of the quake being felt on land. Earthquakes Canada said the epicentre was 142 kilometres south southwest of Port Alice, or about 348 kilometres west of Victoria. The agency said there are no reports of damage or injuries, and no expectation of a tsunami.

First grain ship from Ukraine arrives in Turkey

The first of the ships to leave Ukraine under a deal to unblock grain supplies and stave off a potential global food crisis arrived at its destination in Turkey on Monday. Police captures inmate who Escape from Buffalo Sage Wellness House Edmonton

An inmate who escaped from a minimum-security healing lodge in Edmonton last summer has been captured. Correctional Service Canada says Monique Cardinal was apprehended by the Edmonton Police Service on Saturday night. The CSC says staff from the Buffalo Sage Wellness House observed Cardinal escape on July 8th, 2021, and an arrest warrant was issued. She was serving a sentence of three years, three months, 20 days for convictions that included breaking and entering, and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. CSC and BSWH will investigate the circumstances of this incident.
