February 28th, 2022, at 8:43 pm, Abbotsford Emergency Services responded to a serious collision within the westbound lanes of Highway 1 west of the Sumas exit.Upon arrival, emergency service workers located a pedestrian struck by a commercial vehicle suffering life-threatening injuries. The pedestrian was transported to hospital, but sadly has succumbed to his injuries. The vehicle driver was uninjured, remained on scene and is cooperating with police. A Vancouver Police investigation has led to charges against a Vancouver man in connection with an alleged carjacking in Fairview.The robbery occurred around 8:40 a.m. Sunday, after a 58-year-old woman was forced out of her vehicle near Cambie Street and West Broadway. An alert bystander called 9-1-1 and provided a description for VPD officers, who responded immediately.While some officers tended to the victim, others patrolled the city in search of the stolen car.Shortly before 10 a.m., a VPD officer located the suspect and the car in Strathcona. Emergency crews were in the area of Pine St at Fitzwilliam St of Nanaimo on Sunday.At approximatley 8:20pm, a vacant home was destroyed by an explosion. The immediate area was closed to the public after the incident. 2 people were injured in the incident according to reports. First responders asked motorists to avoid the area after the explosion. A nearby home was also impacted due to the strong explosion.
