Program that sent British Columbians to the U.S. for cancer treatment ends

British Columbia is ending a program that sent cancer patients to the United States for treatment, saying provincial wait times have improved enough that they no longer have to rely on clinics south of the border. A statement from the Ministry of Health says as of the end of February, about 93 per cent of patients are waiting less than four weeks to start their radiation treatment, an improvement from spring 2023, when that number was only 69 per cent. It says the national benchmark is 90 per cent. The province began funding as many as 50 radiation patients each week in May 2023 for treatment

White House Confirms U.S. Will Impose 104% Tariffs on China Tonight

The United States has imposed a hefty 104 percent tariff on Chinese imports, effective from 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday. This move follows a warning from US President Donald Trump on Monday, stating that if Beijing does not remove its retaliatory tariffs on American goods by Tuesday, existing tariffs on China would be raised further. At the same time, Trump’s press secretary, Caroline Leavitt, remarked during a press conference that the United States does not need other countries as much as other countries need the U.S. Leavitt also confirmed that 70 countries have reached out to negotiate a ta

Poilievre Accuses Mark Carney of Tax Evasion, Vows to Crack Down on Offshore Tax Havens

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has accused Liberal Party Leader Mark Carney of hiding his company’s money in Bermuda to avoid paying Canadian taxes. Poilievre has promised that if he forms a Conservative government, he will take strong action to crack down on the use of offshore tax havens, with the goal of recovering up to $1 billion in lost revenue each year. Poilievre stated that the money recovered from these tax havens would be used to offset a $14-billion income tax cut. Additionally, he outlined plans to establish a tax task force made up of experts who would review Canada’s

Israel Seizes Over 50% of Gaza Territory in Ongoing Conflict

Since the resumption of the war against Hamas last month, Israel has seized more than 50 percent of Gaza. The majority of the territory captured by the Israeli army is located near the Gaza border, where Palestinian homes, farmland, and infrastructure have been severely damaged, making it increasingly difficult for residents to live in the area. Israel has stated that its military actions are temporarily necessary to pressure Hamas into releasing all those taken captive during the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. Meanwhile, following a meeting in Washington on Monday, President Dona

China Responds to Trump's Threat of Additional Tariffs

China strongly reacted on Tuesday after US President Donald Trump threatened to impose an additional 50 percent tariff on Beijing. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce issued a warning to the U.S., stating that China is prepared to "fight to the end" and will take equal countermeasures to protect its interests. The ministry described the U.S. threat to increase tariffs as a "mistake on top of another," urging that the U.S. should not attempt to blackmail China. The statement further emphasized that China will never accept such actions, and if the U.S. continues down this path, China will respond

Alberta builds groundwork for optional provincial police agency for municipalities

Alberta's government is taking another step toward giving municipalities the option of ditching the RCMP in favour of a new provincial police service. Public Safety Minister Mike Ellis says an independent Alberta service could step in to help address concerns he's heard about the Mounties' staffing shortages and rising costs. If passed, a proposed bill would mean a new agency must operate under a Crown corporation that would be at arm's length from the government. An extra $6 million has been set aside for the agency's leadership team, but Ellis says if the province shifts about

Rustad Backs Alberta Pipeline Project, Criticizes B.C. Government's Opposition

Former B.C. Conservative leader John Rustad has thrown his support behind Alberta's proposed pipeline project, which is expected to submit its application by July 1. He said the British Columbia government should support the project instead of standing in its way. Criticizing Premier David Eby, Rustad argued that the pipeline is not just an Alberta project but one that would benefit all of Canada and could help address British Columbia's economic challenges. According to Rustad, the project would create real jobs, particularly in northern B.C., where the forestry sector has been struggling in

Indo-Pacific Key to Canada's Trade Diversification Strategy: Maninder Sidhu

Canada's International Trade Minister, Maninder Sidhu, says the Indo-Pacific region is critical to the country's efforts to increase exports beyond the United States and diversify its trade markets. Sidhu recently led a 300-member business delegation on a four-day visit to Japan, marking Canada's largest-ever trade mission to the Indo-Pacific region. The Indo-Pacific is home to Canada's three largest trading partners in the region-China, Japan and South Korea. However, Canada's efforts to expand trade and investment ties there have not always achieved the desired results. Sidhu noted that pre
