Former Edmonton bar employee guilty of five counts of sexual assault

A former bar employee in Edmonton has been found guilty of five counts of sexual assault. Matthew McKnight was accused of sexually assaulting 13 females from 2010 until 2016. They ranged in age from 17 to 22. He had pleaded not guilty. On Thursday, a jury found him guilty on five of the 13 counts and acquitted him on eight. McKnight is to be sentenced on Feb. 7.

Manitoba teenager receives hefty fine and driving prohibition

A Manitoba teenager who was driving high when he hit a moose, injuring a passenger in his car, has received a hefty fine and a driving prohibition. The boy, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was 17 years old when the collision happened a year ago. He pleaded guilty this week in Brandon provincial court to operating a motor vehicle while being impaired by a drug. The now 18-year-old was fined 15-hundred-and-60 dollars and is banned from driving for one year.

Three arrested in Chilliwack during drug-trafficking investigation

RCMP say the alleged sale of illicit drugs at a home in Chilliwack has led to an investigation resulting in the separate arrests of three people. Police say officers also seized about 30 baggies containing what's believed to be crack cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl, along with drug paraphernalia and cash at another home in the Fraser Valley community. Property linked to thefts reported to police was also found at the second home. Police say a report recommending drug-related charges will be forwarded to the public prosecution service.

Man found dead in Burnaby has been identified

A man found dead on the street in Burnaby has been identified, and investigators believe his death is linked to the drug trade. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Unit says 51-year-old Joseph Vincent Morrissey of Vancouver died under suspicious circumstances. Morrissey's body was found Monday (in the 6700-block of Fourth Street) and police say his injuries are consistent with foul play.
