Police say Calgary bus driver attacked for refusing to go off route
Police say a Calgary transit bus driver was attacked for apparently refusing to drive off his route. Two suspects have been arrested. They say the driver had refused a request to deviate from his designated route and was assaulted in the city's northeast.
One rider tried to intervene in the attack but did not sustain serious injuries. The driver was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition but was upgraded to stable. TikTok beauty influencer shot dead during live stream
A Mexican social media influencer was shot dead while she was livestreaming on TikTok. The victim, Valeria Marquez, was 23 years old. The incident happened on April 13, 2025.
In a statement released Tuesday evening, the Jalisco state prosecutor said the case appeared to be a case of femicide. A femicide incident is described as an incident where a woman or girl is targeted because of her gender.

Police say 15-year-old girl hurt in Prince George, B.C., shooting
Mounties in Prince George, B.C., say a 15-year-old girl was shot while in a recreational vehicle parked at a local homeless encampment. A statement from the RCMP says the teen was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say the shooting happened around 1 a.m. at the Lower Patricia Boulevard encampment, locally known as Moccasin Flats. They say there's no indication of an increased risk to the general public. Police are still looking for a suspect and say the shooting is being handled by the serious crimes unit.

Vancouver Canucks promote Adam Foote to head coach, replacing Rick Tocchet
The Vancouver Canucks have named Adam Foote as their new head coach.Foote becomes the 22nd head coach in franchise history and replaces Rick Tocchet, who parted ways with the Canucks on April 29 and is rumoured to become the next head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers.
Media reports earlier this week speculated that either Foote, who joined Vancouver as an assistant coach when Tocchet was hired on Jan. 22, 2023, or Abbotsford Canucks head coach Manny Malhotra would succeed Tocchet.

Newfoundland construction worker Jacob Lewis wins $1-million 'Canada's Got Talent' prize
Jacob Lewis, an offshore oil and gas construction worker from Butlerville, NL, is the $1-million winner of this season's ``Canada's Got Talent.'' He captivated both the judges and the audience with his rendition of ``The Best'' by Tina Turner during the two-hour finale on Citytv Tuesday.
A press release says Lewis had long dreamed of becoming a full-time singer but put his ambitions on pause five years ago when his twin boys were born prematurely with complications. Judge Shania Twain supported Lewis after hearing his audition during which he sang Bon Jovi's ``Bed of Roses."
