Fatalities reported after 2 planes collide in California
Multiple fatalities have been reported after two planes collided in Northern California while trying to land at a local airport.
The collision occurred at Watsonville Municipal Airport shortly before 3 p.m.,according to a tweet from the city of Watsonville.
There were two people aboard a twin-engine Cessna 340 and only the pilot aboard a single-engine Cessna 152 during the crash, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. It was not immediately clear whether any of them survived.

Manish Sisodia among 15 persons named in CBI FIR in Delhi excise policy case
Central Bureau of Investigation has registered an FIR against Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and 14 others in connection with an alleged excise policy case. Excise officials, liquor company executives, dealers along with unknown public servants and private persons have too been booked in the case.
A total of 15 persons have been named in the FIR including Sisodia for criminal conspiracy, falsification of account and undue advantage.
Meanwhile, according to a CBI official, searches were conducted in seven States and a Union Territory, including the premises of former Delhi Excise C

Defence lawyers in Alberta will stop taking serious legal aid
Groups representing defence lawyers in a dispute with Alberta over funding say their members will not take on serious criminal offence cases starting on September 1st.
The groups include the Criminal Defence Lawyers Association in Calgary, the Criminal Trial Lawyers Association in Edmonton, the Southern Alberta Defence Lawyers Association and the Red Deer Criminal Lawyers Association.
The types of cases they will refuse include most sexual offences, firearms-related offences, all homicides and dangerous offender proceedings.

Greater Vancouver Zoo says one of the grey wolves that escaped enclosure this week has been found dead
The Greater Vancouver Zoo says one of the grey wolves that escaped their enclosure this week has been found dead. The zoo's deputy general manager Menita Prasad tearfully told a news conference today that searchers were ``heartbroken'' to find a three-year-old female wolf called Chia dead on a roadside. Prasad says a second wolf is still missing and is believed to be in the vicinity of the zoo. Investigators suspect the wolves got loose when someone deliberately damaged the animals' enclosure.

Several temperature records broken in B.C. on Wednesday
Environment Canada says heat warnings cover the inner south coast, most of the southern Interior and inland sections of the north and central coast, bringing sweltering temperatures for another day. The weather office is calling for the mercury to reach about 40 degrees in the Interior, the mid-30s on the south coast and around 30 degrees along the north and central coasts before rain and cooler conditions arrive tomorrow. Charges approved against two suspects in connection to shooting in New Westminster
In the early morning hours of January 2nd the New Westminster Police Department officers responded to a shooting in the 400 block of 12th Street. Multiple shots were fired into the residence and the suspects fled the scene. Thankfully, no one was injured as a result of the shooting. Woman killed, man injured after shooting in Evergreen : Calgary police
Calgary police say they are investigating the death of a woman after they were called the southwest neighbourhood of Evergreen for reports of a shooting.
Emergency crews were called to the 100 block of Everwoods Court S.W. at around 8:20 a.m.
Police say officers found a man and woman injured in a parked car, suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
They say a woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a man was sent to hospital in life-threatening condition.
As of 8:55 a.m., police were asking people to avoid the area but the situation did not warrant a “shelter in place.”

UP: SKM to hold protest against Centre in Lakhimpur Kheri
Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM)- an umbrella body of farmers has announced it is beginning a 75-hour sit-in in Lakhimpur Kheri from Thursday to press for their pending demands.
