Winnipeg police have charged a 14 year old with four recent shootings, including a homicide on Canada Day. The boy, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, faces one count of first-degree murder in the death of a 27 year old woman. An 18 year old man was also shot in that case, and is in stable condition. A report on Canada's nursing homes says Canada has failed in its duty to protect vulnerable elders. The highly critical report examines the issue in light of the COVID-19 crisis. The Royal Society of Canada found the pandemic was a ``shock wave'' that exposed many long-standing deficiencies in the system and caused high levels of ``physical, mental and emotional suffering'' for seniors. A man who allegedly drove a pickup truck through the gates of Rideau Hall in Ottawa now faces charges, but police are still not saying anything about his motive. He is identified as 46 year old Corey Hurren, a member of the military reserves. He was arrested by RCMP not far from the front door of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's current residence.
