Many big leaders including Navjot Singh Sidhu distanced themselves from the election campaign
Despite the heated atmosphere of the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab, a large number of ex-MLAs, ex-district presidents and constituency in-charges of that faction, including the former president of the Congress party, Navjot Singh Sidhu, have so far kept their distance from participating in the election campaign of the Congress.
So far, no concrete efforts have been made to convince and reconcile this faction by other leaders including the President of the Pradesh Congress Committee, which has started to be considered as a danger bell for the Congress.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh confirms his party will support the Liberals' federal budget
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh says his party will support the federal budget, ending any speculation that the party could pull out of its deal with the minority Liberal government.
Singh says his party wanted time to digest the budget, but is ultimately voting in favour of it because of shared initiatives that it proposes.
That includes creating a national school lunch program and providing free birth control and diabetes medicine for anyone with a health card.
The Conservatives and Bloc Québécois have previously said they wouldn’t support the budget.

'Biological sex' sports bill is quickly quashed in B.C. legislature
A B.C. Conservative private member's bill to classify publicly funded sports teams and events according to the "biological sex" of participants, banning transgender athletes, didn't make it out of the starting blocks.
The Fairness in Women's and Girls' Sports Act was voted down at first reading, a fate that's a rarity in the legislature.

Conservatives call on Commons Speaker to resign, say he let Trudeau cross the line
Conservative MPs want House of Commons Speaker Greg Fergus to resign after ejecting their leader and not Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during a heated debate Tuesday.
The Conservatives say Fergus did not apply the rules equally during a tense back and forth between Trudeau and Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre.

In the Sidhu Moosewala murder case, the Mansa court has framed charges against all the accused. The Sessions Court also rejected the application of Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwan Puria, in which they pleaded not guilty.
Regular hearing of this case will be held from May 20. After this decision of the court, Moosewala's father Balkaur Singh said that today his mind has got some peace.

Cost to host 2026 FIFA World Cup in Vancouver doubles, may hit $581M
Organizers of the seven FIFA World Cup soccer matches coming to Vancouver in 2026 say the estimated cost of hosting the event has more than doubled in the last two years.
The latest estimates put the price tag at between $483 million and $581 million, including costs for the city, the province and stadium upgrades.
The province says the event is expected to generate enough revenue to result in a net cost of between $100 million and $145 million.

Dalvir Singh Goldy joined Aam Aadmi Party
Former Congress MLA Dalvir Singh Goldy joined Aam Aadmi Party from the pivotal seat of Punjab's Sangrur district joined the Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday. According to sources, earlier he was going to join BJP but later postponed the decision. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today included him in the party.
In 2022, he contested against Bhagwant Mann from Dhuri Vidhan Sabha constituency but lost. In 2017, he was an MLA from this seat. Dalvir Goldy was unhappy with the decision to give ticket to Bhulath MLA Sukhpal Khaira from Sangrur, due to which he quit the Congress yesterday.
