UN racism committee calls for halt to Site C, Trans Mountain and LNG pipeline

Rusty abandoned ship in Fraser River near Surrey, B.C., will be removed: DFO

New leader of B.C. Greens to be elected in June

Apparent drive-by shooting in Burnaby, B.C., sends one person to hospital
An 18-year-old man is recovering after being struck in the leg during what police describe as a targeted drive-by shooting late Sunday night in Burnaby. The incident has renewed worries among residents about gang-related violence in neighbourhoods close to Metrotown.

House values drop 11 per cent in Vancouver, stabilize or rise elsewhere in B.C.
Housing assessments in British Columbia show the real estate market continues to see signs of moderation in the Lower Mainland while stabilizing on Vancouver Island and other parts of the province.
The figures released today by BC Assessment show the typical value of a single-family home in Vancouver has dropped 11 per cent, from $1.76 million to $1.57 million, as of July 1, 2019.
The drop is more dramatic in the costly University Endowment Lands on the city's west side, where values fell 16 per cent from $5.9 million to $4.95 million.

Another fire in Delta thought to be suspicious
Delta police say they're treating a New Year's Day fire that destroyed a commercial building in Tsawwassen as suspicious.The two-storey commercial medical-dental building was completely gutted in the fire that was reported about 4:00 a-m.Police spokeswoman Cris Leykauf says police believe the fire may have been deliberately set based on the evidence collected so far.Two other suspicious fires destroyed or damaged three empty homes in Delta last October but Leykauf says any link between those blazes and the most recent fire remains to be determined.

Senior killed in Vancouver's first homicide of 2020
Vancouver recorded its first homicide of the year following an assault at a troubled homeless camp in the city's Downtown Eastside.Police say officers were called to Oppenheimer Park on New Year's Day where a 62-year-old man had been assaulted.They say Jesus Cristobal-Esteban was taken to hospital where he died on Thursday.The identity of the suspect is not known, although police say they believe the victim and suspect had some sort of an interaction before the assault.
