Plane that went into B.C.'s Fraser River hit power lines before crash: TSB
A Transportation Safety Board report says a small plane that vanished in British Columbia's Fraser River last June hit a power line before sinking into the river.
The Cessna 172M left Boundary Bay Airport on June 6 with two men aboard, an instructor and his student.
The report says the plane was flying in Abbotsford, B.C., along the river at a low altitude and was just 38 metres above the water when it clipped a power line.
Witnesses who called 911 reported seeing a low-flying plane, a splash and then the partially submerged plane on the river.

Man's body found hours after man, woman fatally stabbed in southeastern B.C.: RCMP
A body has been found in a small community in southeastern British Columbia and RCMP are trying to determine if it is linked to a recent double homicide in the same area. Drugs and cash found in secret compartment in a car in Surrey
Strategic targeted enforcement by the Surrey RCMP Gang Enforcement Team’s (SGET) has led to the seizure of drugs and cash, from a hidden compartment inside a vehicle. Nanaimo woman says, money began falling from sky after a car raced by her
A woman walking in Nanaimo says money began falling from the sky after a car raced by her as she strolled in the city's north end.
Nanaimo RCMP say the woman, who isn't being identified, noticed the floating cash as the vehicle disappeared down the street, so she gathered up the bills and called police.
Investigators say the total value is significant and it's possible the owner may not know it wafted out the car window, or the money may be related to illegal activities and those involved may not want to report the loss.

Victim of a random machete attack in Vancouver credits his hat for saving life
The victim of a random machete attack in downtown Vancouver on New Year's Eve says he credits his hat for helping save his life. William Johnson says he was hit over the head with a machete outside the Blenz coffee shop near Granville and Nelson streets at about 7 p-m. Johnson says he believes his hat helped save his life as he only required four stitches. A 33 year old man has been charged with two counts of assault with a weapon.The man has also been charged with two counts of assault causing bodily harm, robbery, and possession of a dangerous weapon in connection with the incidents.

Calgary man, B.C. woman killed after stopping at side of highway in B.C.
The RCMP say a Calgary man and B.C. woman have been attacked and killed after stopping on the side of a highway just west of Creston, B.C. Police say the victims were found at around 7 p.m. Wednesday just a few kilometres outside Creston at a pullout on Highway 3 in southeast B.C. Both had been stabbed and police say the suspect is reported to have fled in a vehicle belonging to one of the victims. 625 new COVID-19 cases and 8 deaths reported in B.C.
British Columbia's health minister and provincial health officer urged people to look after their mental health and well-being as the province reported 625 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. Victoria's mayor says a city councillor's decision to travel internationally over the holidays was both disappointing and irresponsible given the sacrifices so many have made because of COVID-19.
