Statistics Canada says the national inflation rate in May rose to 7.7 per cent when compared with May of last year, and has jumped nearly one per cent since April. BC also saw a sharp hike last month as inflation in this province was set at 8.1 per cent, a 1.4 per cent vault over April's 6.7 per cent setting. Man killed in double shooting incident on Vancouver Island
A double shooting on Vancouver Island has left a man dead and a woman in hospital. RCMP in Campbell River say it happened yesterday. The woman is being treated for undisclosed injuries while a police statement says the man appears to have died by suicide. It says the investigation is continuing, but there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

VPD arrests alleged hit-and-run driver, accomplice
Vancouver Police have arrested the alleged driver in a hit-and-run collision that killed a 24-year-old pedestrian Sunday night in Kitsilano. Man charged in connection to multi-jurisdictional sexual assaults in Metro Vancouver
A 27 year old man, Hayden McCorriston, has been charged in connection to a series of sexual assaults, which occurred over a three-day period between March 31 and April 2, 2022 in Burnaby and Vancouver. The sexual assaults in Burnaby included five female victims in the Metrotown area who reported being groped by a stranger. VPD investigates series of unprovoked weekend assaults
Vancouver Police are investigating an unprovoked machete attack in the Downtown Eastside – one of several violent and seemingly random incidents that kept VPD officers busy over the Father’s Day weekend. A VPD officer was flagged over near the Empress Hotel, at Main and Hastings, around 7 p.m. Sunday for reports of a man wielding a weapon. Pedestrian seriously injured in hit and run collision
Surrey RCMP is investigating a hit and run collision that sent one person to hospital with serious injuries. On June 20, 2022, at approximately 6:20 a.m., Surrey RCMP received a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in the 8400-block of 132 Street. Frontline officers arrived on scene and learned that the suspect vehicle had fled.
