Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre has called for a special session of Parliament following Jagmeet Singh’s announcement, which he claims signals the Trudeau government has lost its majority.
Poilievre stated that he is writing to the Governor General, urging her to determine whether the Prime Minister still has the confidence of the House or if the country must head to an election.

Bharat Bhushan Ashu Granted Bail by Punjab-Haryana High Court
Former Punjab minister and Congress leader Bharat Bhushan Ashu has been granted bail by the Punjab-Haryana High Court. The court also quashed two FIRs registered against him by the Vigilance Bureau.
On August 1, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Bharat Bhushan Ashu in Jalandhar after questioning him in connection with a money laundering case related to a tender scam. He has been in custody since then.
During his tenure as Minister of Food Supplies, large-scale irregularities were reported in labor and transportation tenders in Punjab's mandis.

No New Faces from BC in Trudeau's Latest Cabinet Reshuffle
Not a single new face from British Columbia has been included in Justin Trudeau's latest cabinet reshuffle. The Prime Minister appointed three MPs from Ontario, including Ruby Sahota, one MP from Newfoundland and Labrador, two from Quebec, and one MP each from Manitoba and Nova Scotia.
Ruby Sahota, of Punjabi origin, has been entrusted with the portfolio of Democratic Institutions and will also oversee the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario. Sahota, who represents Brampton North, joined Justin Trudeau’s government in a previous cabinet.

Trudeau Reshuffles Cabinet, Inducts 8 New MPs
On Friday, Justin Trudeau reshuffled his cabinet, inducting 8 new MPs and making minor changes to the portfolios of 4 current ministers. The reshuffle follows the sudden resignation of former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh Announces Plans to Bring Down Trudeau Government
A major blow for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, as NDP leader Jagmeet Singh announced that he will bring down the government. On Friday, Singh revealed he would introduce a no-confidence motion against the Trudeau government during the next sitting of the House of Commons. The House is currently on break and is scheduled to return on January 27, 2025.

US President-elect Donald Trump has threatened the European Union with tariffs unless it buys more oil and gas from the US to reduce its trade deficit with the country.
Trump issued this threat despite data from the US government showing that the European Union is already purchasing a significant share of American oil and gas exports.

Om Prakash Chautala passes away
Om Prakash Chautala, a close associate of the late Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and a former Chief Minister of Haryana, has passed away at the age of 89, just 10 days shy of his 90th birthday.

Greece says 8 dead, 18 rescued as speedboat with migrants capsizes near island
A speedboat carrying migrants capsized Friday morning off the eastern Greek island of Rhodes, leaving eight dead and 18 rescued, Greek authorities said.
The coast guard said the incident occurred while the speedboat was carrying out “dangerous maneuvers” to try and evade a patrol vessel, causing migrants to fall into the sea.
A rescue effort is underway involving coast guard vessels and a helicopter as it was unclear whether other passengers were missing, authorities said.
