Shiromani Akali Dal's Lok Sabha candidate from Chandigarh, Hardeep Singh Butrela, has resigned from the party, deciding not to contest the election. Hardeep Butrella said that he took this decision because he did not get any support from the party and was facing lack of funds to contest the elections. On Monday, he returned the ticket to party president Sukhbir Badal. It is to be noted that Hardeep Singh was the president of Chandigarh Akali Dal and the only councilor of the party in the municipal corporation.

B.C. RCMP and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team have confirmed the arrest of three men in connection with the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
