Justice Minister Sean Fraser says the bill will create new crimes of obstruction and intimidation aimed at protecting religious institutions. Fraser says the bill will make it a criminal offence to wilfully promote hate through the use of hate symbols. The victims in these investigations are typically approached with a “money making opportunity” involving the purchasing and exporting of high-demand luxury vehicles. The victim purchases the vehicle with third party financing, has it registered in their name, and the vehicle is then stored at a secondary location. Shortly afterwards, the victims are reportedly told the vehicle has been stolen and should report it to ICBC.

A woman and an 18-month-old girl are dead after a highway crash northeast of Calgary. RCMP say the crash took place Wednesday night near the hamlet of Kathyrn. They say a northbound pickup hit a semi truck heading south. Police say the driver of the pickup, a 36-year-old woman from Hanna, Alta., died along with the toddler. They say two other children were taken to hospital but did not say in what condition. Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
