Calgary: Police arrest a man and woman in the theft of copper wire
RCMP have arrested a man and woman in the theft of copper wire at a cell phone tower east of Calgary.
Police were called by a Telus employee who was live-monitoring the theft on video.
The couple was arrested while attempting to leave the site.
Police say officers found a large amount of copper wire, cutting equipment and break-in tools in the suspect vehicle.

Ambulance response time investigation completed in fatal Calgary dog attack
Alberta Health Services says a communications mix-up is the reason why it took an ambulance 30 minutes to respond after dogs attacked an 86-year-old woman in Calgary.
It says the call for help was initially triaged as non-life-threatening.
Police later told emergency medical services that the woman's injuries were serious and she died.
Police say the three dogs, which were seized by the city, are believed to be a North American pit bull-terrier mix, a North American Staffordshire mix and an American pit bull.

Alberta Health Services investigating EMS response time in fatal Calgary dog attack
Alberta Health Services says it is investigating why it took 30 minutes for an ambulance to respond after dogs attacked an 86-year-old woman in Calgary.
She was taken to hospital and later died.
Alberta Health Services, which runs emergency medical services, says in a statement that staff have contacted the family to share condolences and discuss the EMS response.
Spokesman James Wood says the wait was longer than target response times.
He says it was extremely busy when the call came in and there were no ambulances immediately available.

Former Kenney cabinet minister Leela Aheer running to replace him as UCP leader
A United Conservative backbencher removed from Premier Jason Kenney's cabinet after publicly criticizing him is running to replace him in the party's upcoming leadership race.
Leela Aheer, speaking on the Real Talk Ryan Jespersen podcast, says her goal is to rebuild broken trust with Albertans.
The two-term legislature member represents the Chestermere-Strathmore constituency east of Calgary.
She was named to Kenney's original cabinet in April 2019 as the minister of culture, multiculturalism and the status of women.

We are begging you': Alberta family asks for public help solving 2013 murder
The family of a northern Alberta woman who died nearly nine years ago is appealing to the public for help in solving the case.
RCMP responded to a complaint of an unresponsive woman outside a home in Atikameg, 400 kilometres northwest of Edmonton, on July 29, 2013.
Emergency medical personnel declared Chantel Gail Savard, who was 34, dead at the scene. An autopsy concluded the Grande Prairie woman's death was a homicide.

House fire reported in northeast Edmonton, child taken to hospital
A five-year-old boy was taken to hospital after a northeast Edmonton house fire Monday evening. Firefighters rescued him from a burning home in Edmonton.
Fire crews arrived at the house in the city's northeast just before suppertime.
A woman and three other children were able to make it out safely but there was a five-year-old boy that needed to be rescued by firefighters.
Officials say the boy was in serious but stable condition.

Alberta RCMP arrest six Teens after girl was allegedly chased and bullied
RCMP in southern Alberta say six teens in Nanton are facing criminal charges after a 13-year-old girl was allegedly chased and bullied late last month.
Police say they have arrested and charged five 14-year-olds and a 15-year-old, none of whom can be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
They are facing a total of 10 criminal charges that include intimidation, mischief and uttering threats.
Police say their investigation found a long history of inappropriate behaviour between the group and the girl.

83-year-old Calgary woman dead after attack by neighbour's 3 dogs
Police say there could be criminal charges after an 83-year-old woman died following an attack by three dogs in northwest Calgary.
Paramedics responded to a call yesterday from the Capitol Hill community.
The senior was found withevery serious injuries and died on her way to hospital.
Police say she was doing yard work in the back alley when a neighbour's dogs attacked her.
According to police, depending on the outcome of the investigation, criminal charges or fines could be laid while the dogs could be euthanized. Officers are not revealing what breed the dogs are.

Crown stays tax evasion charges against former Calgary MP Rob Anders
A two-week trial scheduled to begin in the tax evasion case of Rob Anders, a former Conservative member of Parliament, has been cancelled after the Crown stayed all charges.
Anders, who is now 50, faced five charges, some of which dated back to his time in politics. He was elected as a Reform MP in 1997 and went on to to represent his Calgary riding until 2015.
A Crown prosecutor told reporters that he received new evidence last week that would have made it difficult to secure a conviction.
Anders' lawyer said his client was very relieved. The former MP was not in court today.
