NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is concerned about the ballooning federal debt and is once again calling for a tax on Canadians with fortunes topping 20 million dollars. Singh held a news conference this morning in Ottawa in advance of this afternoon's fall economic statement. He wants any sector-specific support the Trudeau government offers to come with strings attached to ensure funding flows to the benefit of workers rather than shareholders or executives. Freeland set to deliver update on federal finances and economic outlook
The federal Liberals will provide Canadians with a long-awaited update on the health of federal finances later today, and potentially unveil a suite of new spending.
Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland will deliver the fall economic statement in the House of Commons around 4 p.m. local time in Ottawa, after markets close.
The fall economic statement should have a full accounting of pandemic spending so far, and the depth of this year's deficit, which in July was forecast at a historic $343.2 billion amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Surrey police investigating fatal shooting in Fleetwood
Surrey RCMP say a man is dead following a shooting in Fleetwood Sunday evening.They say officers responded to a shooting call around 7:40 p.m. in front of a shopping complex at the corner of 152 Street and Fraser Highway. They say paramedics also attended and provided aid to a wounded man, but he died at the scene. Investigators say the victim is known to police and that they believe he was targeted.No names or suspect information was immediately released.The Mounties say they're assisting the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team with the case and are asking anyone who witnessed the incident

Drug peddler held with Codeine Phosphate worth Rs 4 lakhs in Mumbai
The Anti Narcotics Cell of Crime-Branch Crime Investigation Department (CBCID) on Saturday arrested a drug peddler after he was allegedly found to be in possession of Codeine Phosphate cough syrup bottles worth over Rs 4 lakhs in Mumbai's Shivaji Nagar area."The peddler was arrested and 2,053 Codeine Phosphate cough syrup bottles worth more than Rs 4 lakhs were recovered from him, in Shivaji Nagar area of Mumbai, Maharashtra," Anti Narcotics Cell, Ghatkopar unit, CBCID, Mumbai said in an official statement.Further investigation in the matter is underway.

Man dies after Vancouver police respond to call about agitated man in a restaurant
A man has died after a confrontation with Vancouver police and the office that handles all cases of police-involved death or serious injury in British Columbia is investigating. Police say it happened at about 6 p.m. Thursday night in a fast-food restaurant at the east end of False Creek. A man had been asked to leave the restaurant's bathroom and became agitated. Officers were called and say the man was aggressive and combative when he came out of the bathroom, leading to a physical altercation. Horgan says he recently witnessed a group of customers abusing two young waiters and a receptionist at a restaurant when they wanted to sit at one table.
