India's unemployment rate rises to 7.8 per cent in June: CMIE

The rate of unemployment in India rose to 7.8 per cent in June due to a sharp jump in unemployment in rural areas, the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) data showed on Tuesday. Unemployment in rural areas rose sharply during the month under review. Rural unemployment rose to 8.03 per cent in June 2022 from 6.62 per cent in the previous month. In urban areas, the unemployment rose from 7.12 per cent in May to 7.30 per cent in June, CMIE data showed.

Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi says the city has delivered with a plan for a centre where social workers, firefighters and peace officers could work together to reduce crime, and now it is time for the province to step up. The BC Prosecution Service says a suspect arrested following a shooting at the Williams Lake Stampede has been charged with attempted murder. Jordell Sellars has also been charged with discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life. 50 bricks of suspected cocaine seized at Aldergrove border crossing

Canada Border Services says it found more than 50 bricks of drugs when officers searched a truck trying to cross from the United States at the Aldergrove border crossing. The agency says officers noticed that some pallets had been tampered with when they searched the truck last month. They found 50 kilograms of suspected cocaine and one kilo of heroin. The RCMP has taken over the investigation and no charges have been announced.
