Gasoline prices in Canada decline slightly

Gasoline prices in Canada have declined slightly just before the start of the May long weekend. Fuel price tracking service GasBuddy-dot-com says the average retail price at the pump across Canada this morning was $1.99 per litre. It's the first time the Canadian average gas price has dropped back below two-dollars-per-litre since first hitting that milestone on Tuesday. GasBuddy says it expects gas prices in Canada could continue to rise in the coming weeks, with summer demand potentially sending prices even higher.

Monkeypox poses low risk to Canada, public health agency investigating about 20 cases

Canada's top public health officials say the risk posed by monkeypox is low, but nearly everyone in the country is susceptible because routine vaccination against smallpox ended decades ago. The first two cases of the virus in Canada were confirmed in Quebec on Thursday, but chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam says a couple dozen possible cases are being investigated and the federal public health agency still does not know how widespread it might be. Monkeypox is typically milder but in the same family of viruses as the now-eradicated smallpox, and can cause fever, headache, muscle ac

Alberta premier needs to step down immediately: Brian Jean

Jason Kenney's main caucus critic says the Alberta premier needs to step down immediately after announcing plans last night to resign. Kenney did not say when he would leave when he made the announcement after getting only 51.4 per cent support in a United Conservative Party leadership review. But Brian Jean (GENE) says an interim leader needs to be selected immediately ahead of the leadership race. Jean -- who lost the leadership in 2017 and plans to run again --says Kenney knows the healing process can't start until he leaves.

Greer Takes Tough Stance Amid Canada-U.S. Tariff Talks

As Canada continues efforts to secure a tariff deal with the United States, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer has issued a strong response. Speaking to reporters in Des Moines, Iowa, on Friday, Greer said the proposed 50 per cent tariffs on Canadian goods are not a sudden decision. He said they are a response to retaliatory measures previously imposed by Canada against U.S. products. Greer criticized Canada for imposing retaliatory tariffs rather than engaging directly with Washington, comparing the approach to the strategy used by countries such as China.
