Several British Columbia communities are cleaning up and digging out after a storm swept over the southern part of the province on Friday, prompting flooding and landslides. Local states of emergency were declared in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island and the District of Kent in the Fraser Valley. Both areas were overwhelmed with up to 140 millimetres of rain Friday that washed out or flooded major roads and forced the evacuation of dozens of people. Two men found dead, third still missing in B.C. search that involved hundreds

There's been a tragic end to a weekend search for three young men on southern Vancouver Island.RCMP Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet says the vehicle the three men were in was located near Sooke River Road on Sunday and the bodies of two of the men have been recovered.She says the search for the third man continues with the help of Juan de Fuca Search and Rescue.Police said in an earlier news release that Cory Mills, Eric Blackmore and AJ Jensen, all 20 years old, were last seen at a home in Sooke, B.C., late Friday night.The men were in a 2004 blue Dodge Dakota and it was unclear where they going.

RCMP marine unit rescues 11 people after canoe overturns in Burrard Inlet

Eleven people, including several youths, were rescued from the waters of Burrard Inlet after a large canoe overturned near Ambleside Beach on Saturday afternoon, according to the BC RCMP. Police said officers with the RCMP Tactical Marine Operations Group (TMOG), who were conducting patrols in Burrard Inlet, received a distress call over Marine VHF Channel at about 3:30 p.m. on July 5 reporting an overturned canoe off Ambleside Beach. Four TMOG vessels were dispatched to the scene. According to the RCMP, officers arriving at the location found all 11 occupants clinging to the overturned canoe.

Report says Alberta has widest gender pay gap in Canada

Women in Alberta continue to earn less than men than in any other province, according to a new report from the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA). The report found that women in Alberta earn 64 cents for every dollar earned annually by men, compared with a national average of 72 cents.
