Farmers' protest enters 14th day, Centre to send draft proposal for deliberation

With farmers firm on their demand about the repealing of the three agriculture laws passed by the Centre in the last monsoon session of Parliament, their protest entered the 14th day on Wednesday with demonstrations continuing on Sant Nirankari Samagam ground in Burari on the outskirts of Delhi and at borders.Earlier on Tuesday, leaders of farmer unions held a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal at Shah's residence, over their demands regarding the three agricultural laws that were passed earlier in September.

British Columbia has recorded 566 new cases of COVID-19, which the provincial health officer and health minister say is the "start of encouraging trends" in the progression of the virus. The BC Prosecution Service says two Vancouver police officers have been charged in the arrest of a former UBC football player nearly three years ago. It says Constable Jarrod Sidhu has been charged with assault with a weapon and Constable Jagpreet Ghuman has been charged with assault. Finance minister says B.C. recovery benefits program accepting applications Dec. 18

The BC government has introduced legislation to provide a pandemic recovery benefit of one thousand dollars for eligible families and 500-dollars for individuals. Finance Minister Selina Robinson says the cost of the COVID-19 aid program is about 1.7 billion dollars, including 150 dollars a month in increases to income and disability assistance starting in January. BC's seniors advocate has started a separate review into elder abuse in the province after finding an increase in the problem in her annual review. Victoria police say they're looking for both the victim and witnesses to a hate crime on a BC Transit bus. Police say it happened November 28 when a man got on bus number 15 and began targeting the lone Black man with racial slurs for several minutes. A witness reported it to police and officers obtained the surveillance video on the bus. Fraser Health declares COVID-19 outbreak over at Ridge Meadows Hospital

A COVID-19 outbreak at Ridge Meadows Hospital in Maple Ridge has been declared over more than a month after it started. The Fraser Health Authority says the outbreak started November 5th with evidence of transmission in the in-patient rehabilitation unit. Ridge Meadows was one of five acute-care facilities with current outbreaks. Burnaby, Langley Memorial, Lions Gate and Surrey Memorial hospitals remain on the list for outbreaks.

129 Wildfires Active Across B.C. as Brunswick Complex Fire Remains Out of Control

British Columbia's Minister of Forests and BC Wildfire Service, Ravi Parmar, says 129 wildfires are currently active across the province. IHIT identifies Langley homicide victim, appeals for witnesses and dashcam footage

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has identified the victim in a Langley homicide investigation as 75-year-old Larry Greig. According to IHIT, the incident began at about 9:50 p.m. on Canada Day, July 1, when Langley RCMP responded to a report of an elderly man in medical distress near Park Avenue and Douglas Crescent.
