Russia has confirmed the first case of monkeypox in a young man who recently returned from Europe, the country's consumer rights watchdog told reporters on Tuesday. "The first case of monkeypox has been confirmed in Russia. Hiker dies after slipping, falling from mountain in Banff National Park

Mounties say a hiker has died after he slipped on a patch of snow and ice in Banff National Park. Police, fire rescue and Parks Canada responded to a call shortly before noon Saturday about a man who had fallen from Mount Temple near Lake Louise, Alta. They say the man was with a group of experienced hikers when he lost his footing. With the help of a Parks Canada helicopter, police say the man was located about 1,000 metres from the initial site of his fall. VPD investigates Yaletown homicide

Vancouver Police are investigating the city’s eighth homicide of 2022, after a man was stabbed in Yaletown Monday morning. A bystander called 9-1-1 around 8:30 a.m. to report a man had been stabbed near Smithe and Homer Street. When VPD officers arrived moments later, they discovered a 29-year-old victim suffering grave injuries. The man was taken to hospital, but he died a short time later. A 34-year-old woman was arrested nearby and is currently in custody.

Woman injured after shots fired at a home in Surrey

A 40 year old woman has been injured when shots were fired at a home in Surrey early this morning. RCMP say they responded to reports of shots fired at the home (in the 86-hundred block of 151-B Street) at 3:40 am. Police say the woman's injuries aren't life threatening and she's in stable condition in hospital. The number of people looking for work in Canada set another record low, for the second time in as many months, as Statistics Canada reports the jobless rate fell to 4.9 per cent in June from 5.1 per cent in May.
