VPD seeks bystander video to ID Breakout Festival suspects

Vancouver Police have launched an online video portal and a dedicated tip line to identify suspects who sparked violence and damaged property following the cancellation of a concert Sunday night at the PNE Amphitheatre. On September 20, 2022 at 9:25 a.m., the Surrey RCMP responded to a report of an unconscious man in the driver’s seat of a running vehicle, in the 8800-block of 127 Street, in Surrey. Thousands of Edmonton Public Schools students out with 'respiratory illness'

Edmonton Public Schools says more than 6,800 students are home sick with a respiratory illness. The board sent a letter home to parents Monday but it is not clear if the illness is COVID-19. Board chair Trisha Estabrooks says Alberta Health Services has told them to use the term ``respiratory illness.'' BC's police watchdog is investigating after a woman was hospitalized with serious injuries sustained during her arrest by officers in Victoria earlier this month. The Independent Investigations Office says police responded to a report of a woman yelling at an intersection near Beacon Hill Park. It says police called the office to investigate, indicating that the woman had a weapon and she was taken into custody after three hours of negotiations. Surrey man sentenced to nearly five years in prison in extortion-related shooting and arson case

A Surrey Provincial Court judge has sentenced Abhijeet Kingra to nearly five years in prison for his role in a 2024 extortion-related shooting and arson targeting a Surrey home. According to court records, Kingra pleaded guilty on July 6 to charges of discharging a firearm at a residence and committing arson. The offences stem from an Aug. 10, 2024 incident in which a home belonging to a person who had reportedly received extortion threats was shot at and set on fire.
