Toronto's medical officer of health says all licensed childcare centres will be closed until April 5 to stop the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak. Dr. Eileen de Villa is also recommending that anyone who has travelled recently outside of Canada to self-isolate for two weeks. The city will also shut down many public buildings including libraries, recreation centres and swimming pools as well as cancel March break camps. Canada's national museums are set to shut their doors Saturday as the COVID-19 pandemic hits cultural venues across the country. National Museums of Canada has announced that the public institutions will be closed until further notice to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. The decision impacts the Canadian Museum of History, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, the Canadian Museum of Nature, the Canadian War Museum, Ingenium and the National Gallery of Canada.

3 administrative workers at Lions Gate Hospital, test positive for COVID-19

Three administrative workers at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver have tested positive for COVID-19. Vancouver Coastal Health says they are in self-isolation at home and are recovering. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says while he and his children are remaining in self-isolation after his wife tested positive for the novel coronavirus, health professionals have told him he does not need to be tested unless he develops symptoms. Sophie Gregoire Trudeau is now in quarantine following her diagnosis, and Health Minister Patty Hajdu says public health officials will be reaching out to everyone who had contact with her. Trudeau says he will be working from home for the next couple of weeks, and he is keeping in close touch with his counterparts in the provinces and abroad.

L.A. Matheson high school locked down after staffer assaulted, seriously injured

A staff member has been seriously hurt in an attack at L.A. Matheson high school in Surrey. RCMP say an emergency response team has been sent to L.A. Matheson Secondary School and the building has been locked down. They say a staff member was assaulted just before 8:30 a.m. and has been taken to hospital. On June 16, 2025, at approximately 7:30 pm, police responded to a report of an assault at North Town Center Mall, 4750 Rutherford Road in Nanaimo.A woman’s dog, which was off-leash, ran aggressively at a male and his leashed dog. The male stepped in to prevent his dog from getting hurt and kicked the woman’s dog. The woman tried to intervene, and the male pushed her to the ground. RCMP identify second victim of Banff rockfall as man, 33, from Surrey, B.C.

The second person killed in a rockfall last week in Banff National Park has been identified as a 33-year-old man from Surrey, B.C. RCMP did not provide a name and say no more information will be provided. Two people were killed and three more injured when a slab of mountain gave way last Thursday, raining rock down on hikers at Bow Glacier Falls.
