Alberta Health Services investigating EMS response time in fatal Calgary dog attack

Alberta Health Services says it is investigating why it took 30 minutes for an ambulance to respond after dogs attacked an 86-year-old woman in Calgary. She was taken to hospital and later died. Alberta Health Services, which runs emergency medical services, says in a statement that staff have contacted the family to share condolences and discuss the EMS response. Spokesman James Wood says the wait was longer than target response times. He says it was extremely busy when the call came in and there were no ambulances immediately available.

House fire reported in northeast Edmonton, child taken to hospital

A five-year-old boy was taken to hospital after a northeast Edmonton house fire Monday evening. Firefighters rescued him from a burning home in Edmonton. Fire crews arrived at the house in the city's northeast just before suppertime. A woman and three other children were able to make it out safely but there was a five-year-old boy that needed to be rescued by firefighters. Officials say the boy was in serious but stable condition.
