British Columbia records eighth death from COVID-19, cases climb to 271

British Columbia has recorded an eighth death from COVID-19 as the number of infections climbs to 271 cases. Health Minister Adrian Dix says the latest death is a man who was a resident of the Lynn Valley Care Centre in North Vancouver, where six others have died. Alberta: First death and 27 new COVID-19 cases reported

Alberta has recorded its first death from COVID-19. Chief medical officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw says the man who died was in his 60s and had underlying health conditions. She says it appears he contracted the virus in the community and not through travel. Alberta is reporting 27 new cases of the infection for a total of 146. Alberta is the fourth province to record a death. British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec have all had people die from COVID-19.

Car-Motorcycle Collision in Kelowna, Rider Killed

Kelowna RCMP has confirmed the death of a motorcycle rider following a crash on Highway 97 Thursday night. Police said the collision occurred at around 10 p.m. at the intersection of Harvey Avenue and Ethel Street, involving a black sedan and a motorcycle. The motorcycle caught fire shortly after the crash. Corporal Steven Lang said the motorcycle rider was pronounced dead when emergency crews and police arrived at the scene. A 36-year-old man charged in connection with drug trafficking and illegal firearms possession in Abbotsford has been sentenced to 11 and a half years in prison.
