Alberta surpasses U.S. in confirmed measles cases with more than 1,300

Alberta has surpassed the United States in confirmed measles cases, after 30 new cases were diagnosed over the weekend. The province has now seen 1,314 cases since the beginning of March. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported 1,288 cases so far this year across 39 states. The outbreak of the highly contagious disease hasn't led to any deaths so far in Alberta. Three people, including two children, have died in the United States. The U.S. has also seen more hospitalizations, with the CDC reporting 162 people have been hospitalized compared to just over 100 Albertans.

Marathon runner Fauja Singh passed away at the age of 114

Punjabi Sikh runner Fauja Singh has passed away. He was a resident of Beas village in Jalandhar. He breathed his last at the age of 114. According to reports, Fauja Singh was outside his house in the evening when he was injured after being hit by a car. He was taken to a private hospital in Jalandhar, where he breathed his last. Known as the world's oldest marathon runner, Fauja Singh started his marathon in the year 2000, when he was 92 years old. In 2011, he made headlines around the world by participating in the Toronto Marathon and made a name for himself as the oldest marathon runner.

On July 12, 2025, at approximately 6:35 pm, Langley RCMP responded to a woman in distress in the 20300 block of Fraser Highway, Langley. Upon arrival, front-line officers located a 33-year-old woman suffering from severe burns. She was immediately transported to a local area hospital for urgent medical treatment. International students Gaganpreet Singh and Jagdeep Singh have been sentenced to three years in prison and deportation after being convicted of a horrific hit-and-run incident in Surrey last year. Fire in Chilliwack, B.C., destroys businesses and apartments

Every firehall in Chilliwack, B.C., was involved in fighting a destructive blaze in the centre of the city. A statement from the fire department says crews encountered heavy, black smoke as they went to the scene at about 12:30 Wednesday morning. The fire was in a mixed-use building with apartments over commercial space. 48-year-old Abbotsford surveyor dies after being hit by vehicle

A 48-year-old surveyor from Abbotsford was killed on July 15, after being struck by a vehicle while on the job. The incident occurred on Tuesday just after 1 pm, while the victim was working on Sylvester Road near Dale Road in Hatzic, just east of Mission. A dump truck travelling northbound on Sylvester Road struck the man, who died at the scene. On July 12, 2025, at approximately midnight, in the 600 block of Kennedy Street in Nanaimo, an unknown male set fire to a cedar planter box on a porch.
