White Rock RCMP officers nationally recognized for impaired driving enforcement
White Rock RCMP officers Cpl. Luc Lamoureux and Cst. Ravnit Sandhu both received Gold recognition from the National Impaired Driving Recognition Program. Cpl. Lamoureux removed 24 impaired drivers from the streets of White Rock in a calendar year, while Cst. Sandhu removed 27 impaired drivers. Gold recognition was issued to officers who removed 24 or more impaired drivers.

Can Canadians expect any relief on interest rate?
Canadians expect no relief on interest rate front. Ahead of the Bank of Canada meeting, most economists and market analysts say that the central bank is likely to keep interest rates steady at 2.75 per cent for the third consecutive time, given the strength in core inflation and jobs.
Doug Porter, chief economist at BMO Capital Markets, said that according to the Bank of Canada, core inflation is still slightly above 3 per cent.

Demand for live streaming of Majithia case hearing: Application filed in Mohali court
Former Punjab minister and Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia's lawyers have today filed an application in Mohali court in the disproportionate assets case registered against him, demanding that the hearing of the case be held through live streaming.
The petition states that the entire Punjab and people sitting abroad want to know the truth in this case. Majithia's lawyers say that there is no substance in the case, the government is only making big claims in the media. It is noteworthy that the Vigilance had arrested Majithia on June 25.

Motion expected in Nanaimo, B.C. on asking for closure of safe injection site
Council in Nanaimo, B.C., is scheduled to hear a motion that could result in the city asking a provincial health authority to close a local overdose prevention site.
Coun. Ian Thorpe is expected to bring forward the motion at Nanaimo's council meeting today that will ask to "formally request" Island Health to close the site on Albert Street, next to city hall.
Mayor Leonard Krog says he expects the motion to be debated and deferred to enable experts and those with an interest on the issue to come before council at a later time before a decision is made.

Ottawa cuts Confederation Bridge tolls, ferry fares in Atlantic Canada
Prime Minister Mark Carney says that tolls on Prince Edward Island's Confederation Bridge will be reduced starting Aug. 1, along with a handful of other Atlantic travel fees.
Starting Friday, the bridge toll for an average vehicle will drop from $50.25 to $20.
The government is also cutting fares in half for passengers, vehicles and commercial traffic on federally supported Eastern Canada ferry services, and eliminating all fuel surcharges for those services.
