On July 12, 2025, at approximately midnight, in the 600 block of Kennedy Street in Nanaimo, an unknown male set fire to a cedar planter box on a porch. Peel police have arrested a Punjabi youth, Kanwarjot Singh Manoria, in connection with threats to kill Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown. Police said the 29-year-old Manoria was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with making threats to kill or cause bodily harm. The threats about Brown and his family were received by the mayor's office via email two to three weeks ago. In view of this, a security force was deployed to protect Brown's home and his family for two weeks. RCMP say they've arrested the pilot of a small aircraft that was allegedly hijacked from Victoria and flown to Vancouver International Airport, where other flights had to be temporarily halted.
