Deportation of Indians from America is not the first time: S. Jaishankar

Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said in the Rajya Sabha today about the US bringing back Indian immigrants in shackles that this is not the first time that Indians have been deported from America. This has been happening since 2009. Jaishankar said that we have never been in favor of illegal movement, this can pose a threat to the security of any country. The External Affairs Minister said that the process adopted by the US while sending back illegal Indians living there has been going on since 2012 under the standard operating procedure. Jaishankar, however, said that the Indi

Mounties in Burnaby say two women have been arrested after stealing a catalytic converter from a van in a parking lot in the area of Brighton Avenue and Lougheed Highway. They say that on January 22nd, officers responded to reports of the women underneath the vehicle, but the pair left the scene before they arrived. The R-C-M-P say the 9-1-1 caller was able to describe their car and the women were arrested a short time later with several catalytic converters in their possession. Police say the 38-year-old from Surrey and 39-year-old from Abbotsford are expected to face numerous charges,

Demolition of Eau Claire Market begins for Green Line

Demolition has begun on a downtown Calgary shopping centre that was to be the site of a future light rail transit station. An earlier version of the multibillion-dollar Green Line project was to tunnel under downtown to a station where Eau Claire Market had been. But the Alberta government said it would pull its funding under that configuration, and pushed for an elevated track through downtown that connects to the existing rail network. The market, built in 1993 beside the Bow River, never quite lived up to its promise of becoming like Vancouver's Granville Island, and is to be removed despi

58.06 Percent Voter Turnout for Delhi Assembly's 70 Seats

58.06 percent of eligible voters cast their ballots this time for the 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly. This turnout is lower compared to the last three assembly elections. In 2013, voter turnout was 65.63 percent, in 2015 it was 67.12 percent, and in 2020 it was 62.59 percent. In all three of those elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) formed the government in Delhi. This time, exit polls predict a significant loss of seats for AAP. In 2020, AAP secured 62 seats with 53.57 percent of the vote, while BJP won 8 seats, and Congress failed to win any seats. BJP's Comeback in Delhi After 2 Decades, AAP Out, Predict Exit Polls

After voting concluded for the 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly elections this evening, 11 exit polls predicted a major setback for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Nine exit polls forecast that the BJP will secure a majority, while two exit polls predicted a victory for AAP. Several other polls indicated a close contest, with an edge for BJP. If the majority of exit polls prove accurate, the BJP will return to power in Delhi after 27 years. The last time the BJP formed a government in Delhi was in 1993, with three Chief Ministers serving in five years: Madan Lal Khurana, Sahib Singh Verma, and Sushm

U.S. tariff threat: Quebec furniture company lays off 115 workers after sales drop

A Quebec furniture manufacturer says the threat of U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods has forced it to lay off 115 people in the province. South Shore Furniture says it's laying off 97 people at its headquarters and factory in Ste-Croix, Que., southwest of Quebec City, and another 18 people at its operations in the Eastern Townships. Earlier this week U.S. President Donald Trump said he would hold off on his threatened tariffs against Canada for at least a month. But in a news release today, South Shore Furniture says the uncertainty around Trump's motives has significantly affected sales, adding

Mark Carney, made the commitment of tax cuts for the middle class

Liberal leadership contender Mark Carney made the commitment this morning at a campaign event in Windsor, Ont., where he promised a tax cut for the middle class. Carney says he would reach Canada's NATO defence spending target by the end of the decade — two years ahead of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's schedule. Ottawa formally committed in 2023 to spending the equivalent of two per cent of its GDP on national defence but has failed to come close to that target and doesn't plan to meet it until 2032. Most NATO allies have met the spending target already and U.S. lawmakers are pressing Otta
