Ustad Puran Shah Koti, a revered figure in Punjabi classical and folk music, passed away today at the age of 72 following a brief illness. He was the father of well-known singer Master Saleem and served as the music mentor for former state singer Hans Raj Hans.
Koti’s passing has prompted widespread grief across the Punjabi music community. Numerous artists and colleagues have extended their condolences to the family, highlighting his enduring influence on the region’s musical landscape.
Throughout his career, Ustad Puran Shah Koti trained and guided a generation of Punjabi singers, including Master Saleem, Hans Raj Hans, Jasvir Jassi, and Sabur Koti, helping shape their distinct musical styles. He also mentored popular singer Babbu Maan in various aspects of vocal performance.
