Veteran Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle was cremated with state honours at Shivaji Park crematorium in Mumbai on Monday, following her death at the age of 92, according to media reports.
Her body was draped in the Indian national flag, and a large funeral procession was attended by Bollywood personalities, political figures and members of the public. Authorities oversaw the ceremony, which included official honours in recognition of her contributions to Indian music.
Bhosle began her singing career at the age of 10 and went on to record thousands of songs across multiple languages over a career spanning more than eight decades. She was widely regarded as one of India’s most versatile playback singers.
During her career, she received more than 100 awards, including nine Filmfare Awards. She was also honoured with the Padma Vibhushan, one of India’s highest civilian awards, in recognition of her contribution to the arts.
