Following a viral image of an influencer practicing yoga on the 'parikarma' of the Golden Temple, attention has turned once again to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) for its failure to enforce a four-year-old directive prohibiting unauthorized photography and video recording within the shrine's precincts.

Recently, Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh shared his visit to the Golden Temple on social media, including his participation in Sikh rituals captured on camera. Similarly, Punjabi actor Neeru Bajwa also posted a video of her visit to the shrine.

In 2020, the then acting Jathedar of Akal Takht, Giani Harpreet Singh, had urged the SGPC to address the issue after instances of devotees taking selfies and recording videos with inappropriate background music surfaced. These incidents included videos uploaded on platforms like TikTok featuring music that was deemed unsuitable for the sacred context of the Golden Temple.

SGPC spokesperson Harbhajan Singh mentioned that large screens and notice boards have been installed inside the Golden Temple urging devotees to refrain from photography or videography that could diminish the sanctity of the place. He emphasized the need to respect religious sentiments and stressed that the Golden Temple should not be used as a platform for promoting movies or films.
