In light of the Supreme Court's stringent guidelines on managing stray dogs, public opinion has become increasingly polarized.
Renowned Punjabi actress Sonam Bajwa took to Instagram to voice her concerns, urging Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to clarify that the Supreme Court did not mandate the mass extermination of stray dogs. She emphasized that the Court's directive focused on regulated removal from sensitive areas, alongside sterilization, vaccination, and proper shelter-not the eradication of dogs from our streets.

Bajwa raised questions about the government's readiness, asking, “Where are the shelters? Where is the necessary infrastructure?”
“This cannot turn into a death sentence for these innocent animals. While public safety is crucial, so is compassion and responsibility,” she stated. She implored CM Mann to rethink the strategy and adopt a more humane and compassionate approach.
Additionally, she called on the government to collaborate with animal welfare organizations, veterinarians, local authorities, and public safety experts to devise a practical and sensitive solution.
“How we care for the voiceless ultimately reflects our values as a society,” she concluded.
