Renowned theatre artiste Gurcharan Singh Channi succumbs to Covid/ Facebook

Covid claimed the life of NSD alumnus and theatre personality Gurcharan Singh Channi on Thursday morning.

He had been on a ventilator for a while in Chandigarh.

Director of Centre for Education & Voluntary Action (CEVA), Gurcharan Singh Channi was a Fulbright Scholar at Boston University College of Communication. He is the recipient of the Sangeet Natak Academi Award for community theatre.

Right from his first play, 'Dafa 144', 'Zindagi Retire Nahi Hoti' to the latest 'Rocket ho ya Bomb, Pehno Condom', Channi's plays have been a theatre of the people, for the people and by the people.

Channi has to his credit several telefilms, including the acclaimed Tuttu, and over two dozen documentaries.

Mumbai Police have arrested a man accused of threatening Bollywood actors Ayushmann Khurrana and Tusshar Kapoor. The Mumbai Police Crime Branch detained Vaibhav Mishra, an IT professional, from Bengaluru. According to police, the accused had also sent similar threatening emails to several other people. Police clarified that Mishra has no links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The accused allegedly sent threatening audio messages to Khurrana and Kapoor in the name of the Lawrence gang, demanding crores of rupees from them.

‘CID’ Creator B.P. Singh Dies of Heart Attack

Brijendra Pal Singh, popularly known as B.P. Singh, the producer of hit television shows CID and Aahat, passed away on Tuesday morning after suffering a heart attack. Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit shared the news in a post on Instagram, confirming that Singh suffered a cardiac arrest earlier in the morning. His last rites will be performed on October 28. Punjabi actress Neeru Bajwa has announced that screenings of her film Thappi will be suspended amid ongoing protests over the killing of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhotta in Mansa, Punjab. In a message posted in Punjabi on Facebook, Bajwa said the film, which was released worldwide on October 16, would no longer be screened in theatres starting Monday. “Whatever we are today is because of Punjab and Punjabiat.
