An unidentified individual has been booked for allegedly attempting to extort Punjabi singer Ranjit Singh Bawa, following a threatening call made to his team.

The incident took place on November 13 when Bawa’s manager, Malkit Singh, received the threat while at the singer’s residence in Mohali. Malkit, who is the complainant in the case, reported that the extortion call came through a number used by Bawa for bookings and shared publicly on social media platforms.

“We first received a WhatsApp call from the number +447585019808, which I initially ignored. Shortly after, we received an audio message from the same number, where the caller threatened us with severe consequences unless we paid the demanded extortion amount,” Malkit told the police.

A case has since been filed under Section 308 (2) (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code at the Phase-8 police station, and an investigation is ongoing to identify the perpetrator.
